The women’s B grade game between Waratah and Steel City Blue was definitely an interesting game to watch.
Waratah seemed to have the advantage, having a shot on goals within the first minute.
Steel then hit back, Megan Schuster earning a short corner, which was shut down by the strong defence of Waratah.
Though this may have been disheartening for Steel, it continued to keep its head up and finally Schuster drove in to score the first goal for Steel.
This seemed to rev up Steel, as it pushed the ball through the centre, passing again to Schuster who smashed it towards the goal, but goal keeper Kym Bradbury saved it with her stick at the last second.
Waratah’s spirit stayed strong, as Helen Butt and Leeanne Rudd stopped every attempt that Steel made to break through their defence.
Eventually though, persistence paid off and Schuster finally scored a second goal for Steel off a short corner.
Waratah continued to prove it was a strong defensive side, when four short corners were earned, one after the other, by Steel just before half time.
After half time, the same attack from Steel and resistance from Waratah continued, but the communication within Waratah seemed to have improved.
The excellent communication began to pay off, as the marking on Steel got even tighter for Waratah.
Finally, Hailey Meixner stole the ball off Rebecca Gibbons and made a spectacular run down the left side.
Hailey passed to Linda Brown, who was unfortunately shut down by Mirella Marino.
Gibbons then hit back, running down the centre and taking multiple shots on goals eventually one going in, taking the end score to 3-0.
Waratah and Steel City both seemed to finish in good spirits, everyone smiling as all players shook hands at the end.
