It was a tight tussle the whole game, with a few scoring chances going begging for either team.
Country West 5 def Mid North score 2
After a few hours break, the girls were like a well oiled machine, passes finding sticks one after another, penalty corners started to come steadily up front and defence as solid as ever, repelling attack after attack.
Scoring opportunities were converted by the West attackers for a solid win.
Country West 2 def West Mariners 0
As usual the city teams are strong, but the West girls showed what country spirit is all about, taking the game to the Mariners, scoring twice.
Once again the defence repelled attack after attack from the city girls, another great team effort by Country West.
Country West 3 def Barrossa/Riverland Crushers 2
Country West had a score to settle against the Crushers after losing last year’s final 1-0.
A fast and furious match of attack and defence going down to the wire, the West girls winning a penalty corner a few seconds before full time.
A huge roar erupted when the girls converted the goal to take the win after the full time buzzer had sounded.
Country West 2 lost City East Strikers 3
The last minor round game saw some determined play from both sides.
The scores were even with just a few minutes left on the clock and City East found a slight hole in the West defence and slotted one home, taking the win and first place from the West girls.
Country West 0 lost Country East 1
As in the minor round game, it was end to end hockey with some great skills shown by young women on both sides.
Country West was unlucky not to score with some hot chances just missing, whilst East just managed to slip one past a very determined West backline.
All the girls gave it everything they had, but unfortunately that is where Country West’s tournament finished.
