West Whyalla should be a little too strong for bottom placed South Whyalla and come away with another win when the two play each other on Saturday.

The last time these met, it was an exciting draw, but since that game, West has only been beaten once, while South has struggled in most of its games.

South has been the disappointment of the season, having a new coach and went on an extensive recruiting campaign over summer, but is sitting bottom with only one win and a draw from nine games.

South must win if it wants to keep its slender hopes of playing finals and hope the other teams in the mix don’t win too many games for the rest of the season.

West has all but sewn up the double chance, being five points clear of third placed Weeroona Bay, but if its players become complacent, it could drop down the ladder.

West is slowly getting a full squad together, having many players not playing in recent games and if it has all or most players available on Saturday, South will be in for a very hard game.

Last Friday night West unearthed a good player in Gary McNamara, a player of small stature, but his ball skills were very good.

South welcomed former player Gavin Jonker back last weekend and once Jonker gets back into the groove, he will be a valuable acquisition for the Demons.

South must get on top in the midfield and continually push the ball forward, giving its forwards plenty of opportunities to get possession and have shots on goal.

West’s forwards have been down on form in the past couple of games, but its mid fielders have stepped up to kick goals, but if the likes of Nathan Grzona and Brad Smith are given any freedom, both are capable of kicking plenty of goals.

South’s Lance Lawrence should be slowly regaining match fitness and he is one player that will need plenty of attention, as his explosive pace can be very damaging.

While South should match it with West for most of the game, West’s class should just get it over the line in the end.

West to win by 10 to 15 points at the most.
