GREG RAY: Pictures of the Past

WHO ARE THEY?: An interior of the Crossroads Wine Bar, taken in November 1968. Maybe we can locate the subjects of the photo? Picture courtesy of Barry Magor. The Crossroads Wine Bar exterior from 1965

This week’s photo follows the publication, many months ago, of the 1965 shot of the Crossroads, Glendale (republished here) showing the old wine bar. That photo brought back memories for many readers.

I recently discovered, thanks to Barry Magor, another photo of the wine bar, this time an interior, taken in November 1968. Maybe we can locate the subjects of the photo?

The interior of Newcastle’s old post office is likely to have been from taken in 1923 or 1924, Bernard Doherty suggests.

Last week’s photo of mail being sorted in the old Newcastle post office building brought the following response from Bernard Doherty: “I would suggest that the photo was taken in the period between 1923 and 1944. The interior of the post office was modified in 1923 and the photo layout suggests that it was taken in that period. I attach a floor plan of the modification. The next modification occurred in 1944. Subsequently, sorting was carried out in the Bowery Restaurant (old Castlemaine Brewery) adjoining the post office.”
