Londonderry MP Bart Bassett.
Londonderry MP Bart Bassett is the new chairman of both the Police Integrity Commission and the Crime Commission.
‘‘This is a very serious role and one which is very important to ensuring our fine NSW Police Force remains one of the most highly trained, efficient, well-run and clean of misconduct in the world,’’ Mr Bassett said.
‘‘It is crucial that the NSW Parliament adopts a zero tolerance against police misconduct. Not only does the community demand it, it is the right thing to do.’’
The Police Integrity Commission, which reports to Parliament, was established in 1996 on the recommendation of the Royal Commission into the NSW Police Service. It seeks to prevent, detect and investigate serious police misconduct.
An independent body, it is also responsible for detecting, investigating, and preventing misconduct by administrative officers of the NSW Police Force and officers of the NSW Crime Commission.
The Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Office of the Ombudsman and the Police Integrity Commission monitors and reviews the PIC in the exercise of its functions.
