THE only known adult all-white humpback whale in the world, Migaloo, is expected to make an appearance off the Hunter coast today.
Newcastle residents wanting to catch a glimpse of the whale – thought to be aged about 26 – should be able to do so early in the morning, Imagine Cruises skipper Frank Future said.
He advised using binoculars from a high vantage point between 7am and 10am.
“I heard he was spotted off northern [Sydney] beaches at 3pm,” he said yesterday.
“We’re expecting to see him [off Port Stephens] anywhere between 11am and 2pm but it depends if he stops to chase the girls around.
“In the four times I’ve seen him in 19 years he’s been surrounded by females; he is very popular.
“He is completely white and hardly has a barnacle on him.”
On Friday morning, the search for the white whale prompted plenty of interest and a few jokes.
