SCHOLARSHIPS: MP Peter Walsh, students Harry Scott, Navneet Bhatha, Gavin Carmichael and Rotary’s Marie Schlemme.THREE Swan Hill science students have been granted scholarships to attend the four-day ConocoPhillips Science Experience in Melbourne.
Member for Swan Hill Peter Walsh presented St Mary MacKillop College’s Harry Scott and Navneet Bhatha with their scholarships on Friday, while Swan Hill Rotary Club president Marie Schlemme presented a scholarship to Gavin Carmichael.
The scholarships will go towards registration, accommodation and travel costs associated with the program, which will be held at Monash University and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology next year.
“This experience will be invaluable for these students as it provides a great backdrop for them in developing their interests and possible future careers in science, engineering and technology,” Mr Walsh said.
“The program is aimed at students in Years 9 and 10 and involves hands-on activities as well as interactive lectures from prominent scientists and visits to research and industry sites.”
MacKillop science co-ordinator Gemma Headon said she was thrilled three students were set to take part in the program.
“It’s very exciting as it’s never happened before,” she said.
“St Mary MacKillop are very appreciative of the sponsorship.”
