The weather for the huge Canary/Pigeon show was mostly wet and miserable during the whole weekend in Adelaide, but at least it was kept warm and cozy in the huge pigeon pavilion-due mainly to the 1,539 pigeons on display and the many pigeon fanciers who were showing them.
Terry/Ritchie Darling did a wonderful job organising the show, and kept it running smoothly over the two days-nothing seems to faze them, thanks guys.
There were some big names at the Show and they came from all over Australia to give us some support-Murphy, Guipa, Player, Colby, just to name a few of the Showpen Homer boys ,and Ramsey, the Lewis Brothers, Drewitt, Pearce, Evison, and Sheppard to name a few of the Modena boys and they had a famous World Class Judge in Jerry Mitosinka from America to do the honours for them.
What a feather in your cap guys, well done. Stansbury`s Nick Player`s birds certainly caught the eye of Queensland Judge Barry Cole,in the Homer section and won best Old Bird Of Show with a very nice Pied Cock which edged out Dennis Murphy`s Spread Ash,and also Best Young Bird Of Show with an exceptional Blue Bar Cock to give him the Quinella.
Whyalla`s best performer was Graeme Marsland who had best Young Blue Checker Cock,Best Young Faded Cock, Best Young Opal Cock, Best Young Blue Bar Hen, Best Young Spread Ash Hen,Best Young Opal Hen,Three Seconds and two Thirds with his eleven entries.
Roger Woodlands had three Thirds in these categories as well with the only disappointment being only one hundred Showpens for the Judge to peruse.
In the Modena Section there were a fantastic Two Hundred and Fifty entries, befitting for the effort required to bring a World renowned Judge to our shores and there were some truly magnificent birds on display and many different classes as well.
Bird of The Show was a Young Bronze Schiette owned by Jamie Ramsey(N.S.W).Gavin Pearce won Best Old Schiette and David Lewis won Best Gazzi Of Show. Whyalla`s Darren Sheppard was 1st,2nd,and 3rd in the Magnani Class, won a medal for Best Magnani Of Show with an adult cock and this bird was fifth out of one hundred Adult Schiettes.
It truly is a beautiful bird. Darren also had Best Old Ash Red Of Show, and Best Young Tri-Colour which finished in the Top Ten out of One Hundred Young Schiettes to round off a good Show for the Whyalla boys.
